Earlier this week I was feeling a little down and overwhelmed. Too many things on the to-do list, not enough time or money, that sort of thing. I usually go the gym during my lunch break and get in a short workout. My shoulders and arms were telling me that they didn’t want to swim or lift heavy things that day, so I decided to go to the greenway for a little stroll. Some fresh air and time with the trees seemed like a good idea.
The Wolf Creek Greenway trail runs alongside a little creek. After I had walked a bit, the trail meandered closer to the creek, and I could hear it babbling. Then my walk took me to a footbridge over the stream. I leaned against the rail and watched the water flow under me for a while.
On the way back to the car, I decided to forgo the trail and walk along the stream bank. After a few steps and a few stops to watch this pool and that little fall, I realized that I wasn’t feeling down and overwhelmed anymore. Something in my spirit had lifted. It was then that I heard this little reminder:
“He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” Psalm 23
Thank you for that, My Shepherd.
