One of the first paintings I did when I got back into doing art was on this subject.  Since I think (I hope) that I have a little bit better command of my technique and materials now, I am re-visiting the subject.

The idea for this painting originally came when my imagination was sparked by the words spoken for Holy Communion – “Lift Up Your Hearts…  We Lift them Up to the Lord.”  I imagined our hearts rising up from earth to Heaven and the Lord enjoying our worship.  I have a few more paintings along similar themes that I call my “Hearts on Fire” series.

This was done with water-soluble colored pencils on hot press watercolor paper and is approximately 14″ x 11.”
